Low-Income Senior Temporary Relocations

Peregrine Relocations has been contracted to provide low-income senior temporary relocations for the Rose Schnitzer Tower.

CASE STUDY:
Rose Schnitzer Tower is a 17-story high-rise in downtown Portland. Completed and opened in 1980, the building was originally named Clay Towers and consists of 234 one-bedroom apartments for low-income seniors. The building was financed in conjunction with the US Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and is subsidized with Project Based Section 8. Clay Tower was the first high-rise apartment built in downtown specifically for low-income seniors. In 2008 the Schnitzer family sold the property to Cedar Sinai Park, a non-profit organization. The building was renamed Rose Schnitzer Tower to recognize the generous contributions and support of the project.

Rose Schnitzer Tower is managed by Guardian Real Estate Management and has commenced renovation to bring units up to UFAS compliance standards. This involves temporarily relocating tenants in 10 affected apartments for approximately 60 days at a time. Tenants and their apartment contents will be moved to a vacant apartment within the building until the renovations are complete. Peregrine Relocations will move residents back to their original apartment once the ADA renovation is complete. Peregrine Relocations takes “before” photos so when we move people back, we can reset the apartment as it was and help folks get settled back home.

In addition to this temporary relocation portion of the Rose Schnitzer Tower project, Peregrine Relocations was also contracted to provide construction support during the occupied apartment rehabilitation that will occur in the other 222 apartments. Peregrine Relocations will provide assistance to tenants to move apartment contents to expose the areas where construction will need access to work. This occupied renovation project will remove the existing baseboard heaters in the living room and bedroom, install a new HVAC system with heating and cooling, as well as painting and repairing the apartment balconies.
